Just a little taste…

Juggling the bags and her briefcase Sonja made her way from the car and fumbled her way into the house. She entered the kitchen and dumped everything on the counter. Kyle’s car wasn’t in the drive way so she knew she had a little time to prepare. Sonja went to their room and discarded her clothes before going into the bathroom a few feet away. Just as the shower reached her desired temperature a noise made her look over her shoulder.

“Kyle?” she called out stepping under the water.

A few moments later he appeared. “Hi honey,” he said cheerfully.

The curtain moved and Sonja’s head appeared. “Hey sweetie. Happy anniversary.”

Kyle caressed her wet face and kissed her soundly. “Happy anniversary to you. Do you want me to start putting things away while you finish your shower? I will just take mine when you’re done.”

“Thank you baby. That would be great. Leave the meat in the sink and the veggies on the counter so I can cut them up.”

He left her with a quick peck and she slipped back under the warm cascading liquid. Sonja stayed longer than usual welcoming the relaxing feeling the water left her with. Quickly she dried and slipped into the silky pajama set that she knew was his favorite and sprayed perfume down her back and across her chest before leaving the room. As she closed the door behind her she caught a glimpse of the clothes she tossed on to the bed. She changed course to retrieve them and walked to the laundry room instead and promptly tripped over Kyle’s gym bag as she entered.

“Damn it!” she muttered as the clothes went into the air landing all over the floor. “He could have put the bag somewhere other than the middle of the floor so I don’t kill myself.” Sonja gathered her belongings and dumped them on top of the bag. “Dang, he didn’t even unload it this time,” she grunted dragging the bag closer to the baskets.

She put her stuff in the designated hampers to be washed and unzipped Kyle’s bag to do the same.

“Towel, shorts, tee shirt, sweat band, sweaty drawers…” She continued calling off each item tossing them over into the appropriate container. “Sock, sock, sock, tee shirt, geesh, how many weeks does he have in here?” she mumbled shaking her head. Her hand dug into the bag and suddenly stopped. “What the hell is this?”

 Hard…wide…smooth, no wait… rough…a buckle?

Just a little taste…

After taking his sister’s car keys, Gerald followed the highway signs leading him to the heart of New Orleans. He parked in the same place they did when he came to see his brother-in-law and followed his memory to the old house. The old woman was sitting right where he left her two days ago.

“Welcome back, Gerald Dixon. I knew you would come.”

He stopped in front of her. “You did, huh? Well then, maybe you could tell me what the hell is going on. Nothing has been the same since I left this place.”

She nodded. “Yes, you would think that, but all is well.”

“Look, I’m not in the mood for games. Just tell me what is going on.”

“You have been chosen because strength and courage in a nonbeliever is needed to lift a curse that should have never been cast. Are you up for the challenges? Will you do what is necessary to free Margarita Malveaux’s spirit?” she asked him critically eyeing him as she leaned across her table.

“Yes, I want to help her be free.”

She nodded once and stood. “That is why you are here. Follow me.”

Just a little taste…

Jade walked by the dance floor, bobbing her head to the music. Just as she put her glass on a passing waiter’s tray, someone grabbed her hand and yanked her to the dance floor.

“Hey! What the—”

“Shh! Here, turn your back this way. You gotta dance with me. Can you step?”

“What? Excuse you, but—”

“Shh! Please, help me out. I’m trying to hide over here.”

“Hide?” She looked around quickly, letting him pull her around the dance floor. “Hide from what?”

“Not a what, a who. I don’t know who she is, but she’s been following me around since I got here.” He ducked behind her and twirled her around.

She moved stiffly in his arms and spoke crisply. “Look, I didn’t come to this party to do protection work.”

“Okay, then why did you come to this party?” He lowered himself again, his body folded almost in half in an attempt to hide himself behind Jade’s smaller frame. “Shit, don’t move. There she is,” he whispered urgently.

He retreated, pulling Jade with him, closer to the center of the dance floor. Somehow he managed to keep the beat with the fast paced music as he slipped by the dancers He kept his face down and her back turned to the woman, using her as a shield, but Jade’s curiosity was peaked. She peeked over her left shoulder, trying to spy who the man was hiding from.

Several people separated them from a beautiful, young black woman who appeared to be scanning the crowded dance floor. Her bottle blonde hair bobbed up and down, poking out between the shifting shoulders of the people as she shimmied among them in her search. He readjusted their position to keep Jade between him. Jade only caught glimpses of the tiny yellow curls and the red dress that her top heavy body was stuffed into as she pushed her way through the sea of dancers. The small woman was clearly having difficulty maneuvering through the dance floor. To her partner’s obvious relief, she finally gave up her search and he stood to his full height.

“What was the problem? She’s, umm…pretty.”

Asian Spice

Just a little taste…

She walked over to him and pulled him back to the sofa. “Michael, you worry too much. I am all about discretion. I don’t want to jeopardize my job or yours. I just want to have a little fun while I’m in China and take you along for the ride.” She sat him down next to her.  “Now, there’s no one in your life right now, right? I don’t want any drama with anyone thinking I’m stepping on their toes or stealing their man.”
He shook his head and chuckled. “ No, no one like that. I work too much to have any type of relationship.” He paused and chuckled again. “ In fact it’s been a long time since I’ve been with a woman.”
“Hmm, well it sounds to me like you’re due to have a stress free, no strings attached love affair. So tell me, Michael, are you up for one?” She moved closer as he pondered her question. “Come on, Michael, I could use a little Asian spice in my life.”
He laughed as she pushed him back and he let her crawl on top of him. “Asian spice, huh? So, if you’re getting Asian spice, what will I be getting?”
